Bondix S.A.NE May 2023 Release Notes Our developers work on Bondix S.A.NE software incrementally which means that bug fixes, improvements, and even new features are constantly added, producing new release versions every couple of days. On a monthly basis, we publish a version that combines all changes added since the last version. This May 2023 Release contains the following changes: New Features Transparent Bonding Proxy (BETA) The Transparent Bonding Proxy feature allows our bonding proxy to use the original client's source IP when proxying a connection. This requires additional setup and must be explicitly enabled; also, it’s expressly a BETA feature. You can find information on how to do that in our Bondix Knowledge Base Wiki . Teltonika FW 07.04.3 Support We now fully support Teltonika Network’s 07.04.3 firmware. If you intend on switching to this Teltonika firmware release directly from a major earlier version (07.0X.X), we recommend you reset your router before updating to this Bondix Release Version in order to ensure you achieve the bandwidths you’re used to. In this case, don’t forget to backup your settings. Improvements Client ... Server Web Interface Update In the Bondix S.A.NE server’s web interface, unsaved changes are now highlighted in red. This fixes certain situations in which changes were not immediately saved to disk. SNMP MIB Overhaul The SNMP MIB was updated to reflect current information that hasn’t been shown before. Enhanced Installation The Bondix S.A.NE server installation script now supports ARMx64 architecture. Bug Fixes Client An issue was fixed where "Proxy paused connection timeout" log messages could spam on the client if the tunnel was only barely connected, e.g. with only a single uplink that had bad reception or was severely throttled. Also, the overall amount of (debug) proxy log messages was reduced. Client will no longer attempt to set a WAN interface to standby if the server does not support it. This could cause a tunnel session reset in the past. An issue where the client would occasionally restart after being disabled in the web interface was fixed. Client will no longer crash when it was connected to a backup server. The DNS cache is now invalidated when a tunnel is fully disconnected. Server An issue where tunnel routes on server shutdown were removed was fixed. The use of “ip route” in server route scripts was fixed. Tunnel names with trailing spaces are now handled properly–it should no longer be possible to create them in the server web interface. bxsnmp is now reporting all tunnel channel information but will block until first tunnel info is received. Also, first snmp get/walk should no longer yield no results. This April 2023 Release contains the following changes: New Features New Backup / Standby Interfaces On the Bondix S.A.NE Client, interfaces can now be declared as backup: They are listening in at virtually no data usage and will only activate in case the main interface(s) fail. You may set a minimum number of active main interfaces. When the number of active main interfaces falls below this threshold, backup interfaces are activated and used. Please keep the following things in mind when using this feature: Switching to a backup interface will cause a short but probably noticeable delay in data transfer. Backup interfaces will only go back to standby when they are not in use. Backup interfaces may also be activated when a main interface is only performing poorly. Teltonika FW 07.04.1 Support We now fully support Teltonika Network’s 07.04.1 firmware. If you intend on switching to this Teltonika firmware release directly from a major earlier version (07.0X.X), we recommend you reset your router before updating to this Bondix Release Version in order to ensure you achieve the bandwidths you’re used to. In this case, don’t forget to backup your settings. Improvements Client Simpler UI The Client’s settings page was cleaned up so its sorting makes more sense and is easier to understand. Instead of being a part of the presets, the “Encryption” setting has been moved to the “Advanced Settings” tab. For the monitor, the “HTTP Port” and “API Key” entries have been removed in the “Advanced Settings” tab; in the graph itself, the interfaces now again are shown with their names instead of “Channel 1”, “Channel 2”, etc. Server Layer-3 routing settings An option to configure routes and server routes directly on the server has been added. Please keep in mind: Server routes are routers that are applied on the server–matching traffic will be routed towards the tunnel. When the client is masquerading (default), no server routes are required. Server routes must be unique across all tunnels and may not overlap. Routing management Server routes can now be added/removed via bxutil . Bug Fixes Client Layer-2 connection issue We’ve identified and fixed an issue where a Layer-2 tunnel would not connect. Involuntary restart We’ve fixed an issue that caused the Client to occasionally restart shortly after disabling the Bondix S.A.NE service. Server Web interface time-out We’ve fixed an issue that caused a user to automatically log-out from the Server’s web interface after 10 minutes, regardless of activity. Bondix S.A.NE February/March 2023 Release Notes This newsletter does not come with release notes for our new release versions and for a good reason: While our software output has increased, our team is still in the process of growing and there only are so many hours in a day. Thanks to very valuable input from our partners, we’ve slowed down a bit and are looking into bugs that tend to hide during normal testing and only appear in special combinations and situations. We want to make sure that the quality of our software holds up to the highest standards, so the releases we’re working on right now are maintenance-only. Also, we’ve slimmed down our downloads section a bit in regards to Teltonika versions. Their system is divided into a latest stable mass deployment, an older stable mass deployment, and a beta version that is not as tested and may be faulty. Starting on February 1, 2023, UK Wireless WAN and connectivity provider SimpliWiFi has officially become a Bondix S.A.NE distributor for the United Kingdom. They will be taking over all UK Bondix S.A.NE partners from former Bondix S.A.NE distributor Wired Broadcast who had to foreclose at the end of 2022. More Supported Router Models Good news first: Around the end of last year, our developers made sure that Bondix S.A.NE now also supports Teltonika router models RUT241 and RUT951/956. Which brings us to the not so good news: Wired Broadcast Two weeks ago, Wired Broadcast’s Johnnie Dymock announced that they had to close their business after 32 years. On a monthly basis, we publish a version that combines all changes added since the last version. This January 2023 Release contains the following changes, including an important security update for the S.A.NE server: New Features Remote shell / webSSH With this new feature, you can open up a remote shell in your server’s web interface connecting your server to your router via webSSH. As this function can pose a possible security threat, it is disabled by default. Teltonika FW 7.03.2 support We now fully support Teltonika’s 7.03.2 firmware. However, due to our experience during testing, we recommend you reset your router after updating to this Bondix Release Version in order to ensure you achieve the bandwidths you’re used to. Improvements Server Over-usage warning The Bondix S.A.NE server web interface now gives out a warning when license over-usage is detected. Bug Fixes Server Handshake crash We’ve identified and fixed an issue that could result in a crash/restart of the server daemon when a tunnel is reconnecting in quick succession. The server will now show its current license usage and how many tunnels can be connected. It will also show a warning when over-usage is detected within a grace period. Before, this warning would only appear when the grace period ended. Bug Fixes Server An issue with S.A.NE servers not connecting to the license server if an invalid SSL certificate was encountered until the service was restarted was fixed. Due to misconfiguration, our licensing server was temporarily using an outdated SSL certificate, uncovering the described bug, which is now fixed. As part of this change, saneserver will now connect to api.bondix.dev (was: telemetry.bondix.dev), which has guaranteed high availability and extended monitoring, to minimize the risk of a similar incident to happen.
